December Happenings

Hi! I am Nicole Strickland. And I am here to write about "December Happenings".

We have had a busy month! We worked with Mrs. Forst's first grade class. We read a book called  The Snow Globe Family. and made little snow globes with our pictures in them. We also made picture frames. We also worked on writing argument/opinion essays about chocolate milk and school uniforms. We picked our own research topics and created non-fiction books, too!

We are looking forward to our school-wide sing along tomorrow. It is when the whole school comes together and sings. If you are a new teacher, you have to dance when we sing Have A Holly Jolly Christmas. But don't worry- the students will help you!

On Pajama and Slipper Day, students wear their pajamas and slippers to school. Also, it is a half a day on Wednesday.
We hope you all have a wonderful holiday and a great Pajama and Slipper Day!

November 17 RRJ Homework

Here is tonight's homework for your journal:

Reading Response Journal Homework

Tonight for homework, please write me a letter in your RRJ. Your letter should:
  • Be a minimum of one page
  • Mention the title and author of the book you are reading

You can choose to:
  • Discuss the hero in your fantasy book- what kind of hero is it? (Check your RRJ chart from today’s lesson for help)- use evidence from the book to explain
  • Discuss the inner and outer conflicts/struggles your character faces- use evidence from the book you are reading to prove this
  • Discuss new words you have found- either words that are new to you or words your author may have made up
  • Discuss a possible theme of your book- use evidence from your book to explain why you think this is the theme

You may include anything else you would like to tell me about your book. Your jots and notes in your RRJ can help you write your letter. This will be due tomorrow, November 18

The Role of the Hero

Today in Readers Workshop, we discussed the role of the hero in fantasy literature (and movies). This chart helps readers identify what type of hero is featured in their book:

Veterans Day Assembly

This is Abigail and I am here to write about the Veterans' Day Assembly at our school. We had so many veterans come from all of the branches. We had Navy, Army, Marines, Coast guard, and Air Force. We also had the E-W band and orchestra play a song called "Chester". We did so well some of the veterans even started crying happy tears! We were so proud of our accomplishment of making the people who served our country happy. One of our teachers found a video that was based on Veterans Day and thanking our veterans. All of the grades k-6 sang some songs about each branch. I loved the assembly.
I hope you liked my post!

This is Ava and Ethan talking about our week. We got to use Chromebooks this week. We worked on xtramath.org, front row math and typing training. In front row math, you have teams and you can buy clothes for your pig. We also worked on argument writing for chocolate milk. We did pros and cons telling if it is a good idea or not a good idea for schools to sell chocolate milk. We hope you enjoyed our post for this week's blog!
